Training programme launched for gerontech Care Equipment Counsellors, newcomers to serve the older adults

Jockey Club "age at home" Gerontech Education and Rental Service (JCAGERS) not only introduces a new service for all elders and carers in need, but also brings a new job category, Care Equipment Counsellors (CEC) to gerontechnology field. CEC plays an important role in the rental service JCAGERS provides with main duties including education & instruction, equipment assembly, assist assessment, cleaning & disinfection and service follow-up.

Eleven members have been recruited to form the young team of CEC with their tailor-made training programme commenced on 22 June 2020. All of them attended a total of 72 hours of theoretical and practical training in 22 sessions. Training includes introduction on Hong Kong elderly service, basic nursing skills, caregiving service attitude, as well as introduction and practical training for different kinds of gerontech products.

CEC Vicki Fung shared, "I have learned more about the problems elders are facing nowadays and how gerontech can improve their quality of life." Another CEC Wing So, expressed her thankfulness to the preparation of all the instructors, "All training sessionsour instructors conducted are professional, and made it easier for us to adapt and gain thorough understanding. Discussion and role playing also laid the foundation for us to gear up with confidence."
