Occupational therapists at the Jockey Club “age at home” Gerontech Education and Rental Service Centre conduct assessments for service users. Taking into consideration of individual needs, functioning ability, daily self-care ability, and environmental factors, the therapists introduce and recommend different assistive devices, such as wheelchair, shower seat, to be used in daily life. To strengthen the self-care ability, such as eating, grooming, dressing, toileting, and bathing, of the elderly and reduces carer’s stress, the therapists also guide service users and their carers to use assistive devices appropriately, so as to improve safety in care and quality of life of the elderly.
After the preliminary assessment by the care equipment counsellors, people who require professional recommendations from occupational therapists will be referred for evaluation and consultation services.
