Sparkle Healthcare
A CCSV Recognised Service Provider

Wendy Lee

Hello everyone, I am Wendy from Sparkle Healthcare. We are a social enterprise founded by a group of home carers who aspire to improve the living quality of the elderly by offering the best rehabilitation and day-to-day care. We became the Recognised Service Providers of Community Care Service Voucher Scheme for the Elderly (CCSV), run by the Social Welfare Department (SWD) since 2020, serving the elderly with the voucher. We started the collaboration with Jockey Club "age at Home" Gerontech Education and Rental Service (JCAGERS) since 2023 to provide rental service of assistive technology products.

While working on the frontline, we've noticed how big a difference gerontech equipment make in the lives of the elderly and their caregivers. But sadly, some equipment come with a hefty price tag and not everyone can afford it. Storage and maintenance are also the factors that may hinder the elderly's decision to use gerontech equipment. Since September 2023, the coverage of the Scheme has been expanded to include the rental of assistive technology products. JCAGERS invited us to participate in their “Assistive Equipment Rental Service Online Briefing” to introduce their core services in October of last year, and started our collaboration to provide the assistive equipment rental service to the elders with voucher.

Sparkle Healthcare focuses on the elderly with rehabilitation needs. We offer home-based rehabilitation therapy and nursing services. Suppose the recipient requires gerontech equipment or special care, we'll contact JCAGERS to arrange a home assessment with their occupational therapists, who will recommend equipment that best fit the elderly's living environment and personal needs. JCAGERS offers a wide array of equipment for rental that provides assistance for daily living, mobility or transfer, shower and toilet, to cater the different physical needs of the elderly.

What's more, the service of JCAGERS is very on point. Whether it's home assessment, equipment delivery, installation or maintenance, they will always provide a fixed date and time for the elderly and their carers to make timely arrangements. Moreover, their occupational therapists will visit the elderly and their caregivers in person to walk them through the equipment, easing them into their new routines sooner. Currently, most of our referrals include electric nursing beds, electric wheelchairs and shower chairs, which have significantly elevated the lives of the elderly and their caregivers. Take the nursing bed as an example, its lifting function enables the elderly to get in and out of the bed with ease, while its adjustable backrest has greatly relieved the elderly when having a meal. The nursing bed also benefits those who depend on the nasogastric tube for nutrition, making it much easier for its users.

As a collaborative partner of JCAGERS, we have witnessed the positive impact of the assistive equipment in the lives of the elderly and their carers. We are more than willing to recommend JCAGERS to organisations looking for assistive equipment. We hope to serve more elderly to achieve “age at home” and elevate their quality of life through the collaborations of organisations.

If you want to learn more about the services of JCAGERS or become our collaborative partner, please call 9311 0726 or email to jcagers@hkcss.org.hk.

Gerontech in the community

JCAGERS collaborates with different organisations to bring gerontech into the communities and the general public can explore more on our service and various equipment. In 2024, we have organised various events, including a three-day“age at home” Gerontech Experience Day with LINK Sustainability Lab, which showed how gerontech products enhance healthcare, dining, living, and commuting experiences, as well as the home safety of elderly and their quality of life.

We have also collaborated with "Patient Resource Centres of Kowloon Central Cluster" and "656carer.com" to cohost two events at the Hong Kong Buddhist Hospital. The first event was a sharing and experience station on gerontech with the theme of "Smart Living with Gerontech", which gave over 200 elderly and carers an opportunity to learn about gerontech and how it elevates their quality of life and aids their daily activities to reassure their family members. Another event,"Can You Hear Me?", promoted hearing health for the elderly through a sharing and experience station, where audiologist explained common hearing issues among the elderly and shared the hearing protection tips. The JCAGERS team introduced various assistive hearing devices, and an extended trial with different hearing aids. Both events were well received, and the team of JCAGERS was pleased to have served the general public including elderly and their carers through these community events and introduced gerontech into their lives!

Gerontech and Innovation Expo cum Summit 2024

The Gerontech and Innovation Expo cum Summit (GIES) 2024, the annual flagship event of gerontechnology in Hong Kong, was successfully held from 21 to 24 November at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. As one of the feature booths, Jockey Club "age at home" staged at GIES with the theme of "A New Chapter in Rental Service" this year. The exhibition booth introduced the project's second-phase development and a series of new measures, shared how Jockey Club "age at home" connected with various partners to foster cross-sector collaborations, and reviewed the experiences from local, Mainland and international exchanges and knowledge sharing. The booth also provided the latest information on the "Community Care Service Voucher for the Elderly" (CCSV) helping elderly and caregivers to choose suitable assistive technology products and services.

This year, Jockey Club "age at home" booth featured the highly popular "Equipment Experience Zone", in which visitors were able to experience various types of gerontech equipment in the home-setting scenes on-site. The booth also introduced a "Self-Service Rental Station" for the first time, where visitors could choose the equipment that best suited their needs, experience self-service equipment rentals, and register as members of eRent website. We were glad to introduce our services and exchange ideas with visitors from various sectors in the four-day expo. Thank you once again for your participation and support!

Limited festive promotion on Assistive Equipment Cleaning and Disinfection Service

How long has it been since you thoroughly cleaned the wheelchair, commode chair, or walker at home? These assistive equipment are quintessential in the daily lives of the elderly and people with disabilities. If we do not clean them regularly, not only are we reducing the life cycle of the equipment, but we may also encourage an overgrowth of bacteria that puts the health of the users and their caretakers at risk.

Therefore, we recommend that users send their equipment to our Gerontech Cleaning and Maintenance Service Centre every six months for deep cleaning. Our professional machines and equipment will eliminate most bacteria and any hidden grime. From now until 25 January 2025, enjoy our limited festive promotion on our Assistive Equipment Cleaning and Disinfection Service. Group and individual bookings make use of the complimentary round-trip service without a cap on the number of equipment. We accept as little as one piece. This offer is open to all care homes, service centres, groups, the elderly, people with disabilities and their carers. Get in touch now!
