Service Close-Up

With all kinds of professional services, elder and carers can achieve "Smart Ageing in Place"

Comprehensive cleaning and maintenance service
Ease your mind and keep your family safe

We want our users to have the best experience with our equipment, this is why our cleaning and maintenance service is quintessential to keeping our rental service in top form. Jockey Club “age at home” Education and Rental Service is dedicated to improving the hygiene and safety of our equipment, and we are going to walk you through our cleaning and maintenance process in this issue. We hope you can better understand our services and the hygiene and safety of our gerontech equipment from today onwards.

To elevate our services, we have imported the latest machineries from Japan and referenced its established business model covering rental and disinfection standards. Our team in Hong Kong has developed our own disinfection solution designed for the needs of the city:

1. Thorough Disinfection

Ozone disinfection is effective against most bacteria and keeps our equipment sterile.

2. Meticulous Cleaning

We have imported the latest machineries to streamline the cleaning process and remove dirt from every nook and cranny of the equipment.

3. Quality Maintenance

Our team of professionals assess every gerontech equipment to ensure its safety.

4. Carefully Packaged

Our gerontech equipment is repackaged after disinfection and maintenance to safeguard against contamination and dirt so that they will remain in pristine condition.

5. Smart Storage

An electronic storage system is in place to keep track of the equipment and make sure it is correctly stored.

According to the results of our swab test, our maintenance service centre effectively wipes out 99.8% of bacteria on the surface of the equipment. Our system is constantly being upgraded and is supported by strict cleaning and maintenance protocols. We hope our users and carers can enjoy greater peace of mind with us, as we continue to improve our services and operational efficiency.

We want more people to benefit from our services. Gerontech Cleaning and Maintenance Service Centre has recently launched its assistive cleaning and disinfection service that serves social welfare organisations and elderly homes. We thoroughly clean, disinfect, deodorise and safely dry equipment such as wheelchair, rollator, shower chair and so on. We hope to keep the equipment clean and dry to prevent the spread of diseases among users, their carers and other hospitalised patients. Our cleaning fee is as low as $43 up to $150 (special rates are also available for non-profit organisations). Let’s keep our gerontech equipment safe and in top shape!

Occupational Therapist I (Clinical Supervisor)
Martin Lai

Before joining “age at home”, I had met many ailing elderly who were sent to the hospital and social organisation I worked at by concerned carers. They were often worried about the level of care the elderly received, and this had inspired me to look for new ways to help seniors ease into safe routines at home. During my research, I noticed a growing demand for gerontech equipment worldwide that enabled more elderly to grow old at home. I decided to join Jockey Club "age at home” because they are very much in sync with my belief, and I trust its model will serve the needs of Hong Kong.

My work at Jockey Club “age at home” can be divided into two major parts. First and foremost, I provide consultation services for the elderly and their carers to pair them up with the best gerontech equipment here. When the seniors come to our education centre, our Care Equipment Counsellor will assess the elderly and triage them. Some worry about their self-care ability because they notice a decline in their memory or have almost tripped, but with little knowledge of gerontech equipment, they do not always know what they need. As a professional therapist, my job is to assess their cognitive ability and mobility before arranging for home visits and assessments to recommend the most suitable gerontech equipment for the elderly.

My second task is to present different programmes and workshops at our education centre to reach more elderly and spread the importance of gerontechnology. When the elderly come to our workshops, we don’t just introduce our products, our educational programme teaches them to understand their health and identify the most suitable gerontech equipment. For example, we once held a workshop that screened for hearing loss in seniors, so they could better understand their condition and learn more about hearing aid apps. We have also worked with different educational institutions like The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and Tung Wah College to create the ‘co-design’ workshops, which foster conversations between future therapists, carers, gerontech designers and the elderly. We want to fill the gap between the younger generation and the seniors, so they can use this insight to design a safer home environment and improved gerontech equipment for the elderly.

“Tech changes the way we live” — I remember hearing this from a student in our workshop, and I hope this stays true as more elderly benefit from gerontechnology and our workshops that advocate for smart ageing in place.
